Vision

VISIONThe Victorian-age founders of our hospital lived in a time of turbulent transformation, socially and economically. Even so, they made a promise to their neighbors and future generations. They pledged to devote the new organization’s full resources to providing care and fighting illness. The technological means to achieve that pledge have changed over 120 years, but their vision remains. Promise kept.

120 Years of Care

From the establishment of the hospital to a $50 million expansion, addition of the Plainfield Emergency Care Center and in 2013 the addition of health centers in Norwich and North Stonington, Backus continues to fulfill its promise of meeting the health care needs of the community.

Most Wired 3x

Backus was the only hospital in Eastern Connecticut to receive the American Hospital Association’s Most Wired Award for third year in a row, a recognition of continued commitment to using technology to enhance patient care.

Cancer Center 15 years

The Backus Cancer Center celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2013 by expanding its survivorship programs and adding The Boutique at Backus, which provides resources, information and merchandise for cancer patients.
