First Friday at Backus

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to raise money for the Backus Breast Health Initiative, employees at Backus Hospital and other local businesses took part in a series of First Friday activities on Oct. 1 that included a bake sale, pink decorations, pink sticker sales and dress pink fund-raisers. Thanks to all who took part and donated to this cause.

A look back at Backus

Backus Hospital celebrated its 117th birthday on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010. Things have changed a lot over the years. At one time, there was one wing for men and another for women. One operating room that sported the very latest: A one-inch thick plate glass operating table. And the whole thing cost $185,000 to build — about $85,000 more than originally estimated.
