A look back at Backus

Backus Hospital celebrated its 117th birthday on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010. Things have changed a lot over the years. At one time, there was one wing for men and another for women. One operating room that sported the very latest: A one-inch thick plate glass operating table. And the whole thing cost $185,000 to build — about $85,000 more than originally estimated. Backus Hospital opened its doors on Oct. 4, 1893. Here are some vintage photos from the Backus collection. If you have some, we invite you to share at [email protected]

Backus Hospital Auxiliary Mini Golf Tournament 2010

"For seven years now, the Backus Auxiliary has staged a most unusual — and suceessful — fundraiser. This year the event took place Saturday, September 25, 2010. The annual mini-golf tournament has become an early-Autumn event in a terrific New England setting (thanks to the generosity of the Adelman family, owners of the Odetah Camping Resort), and — most of all — great spirit (thanks to the hard work of the Backus Auxiliary staff).
