Backus Emergency Care Center Groundbreaking

More than 100 people gathered at Lion’s Park at Town Hall to enjoy a picnic and celebration following the groundbreaking ceremony for the Backus Emergency Care Center on Route 12 in Plainfield. The event included the Crash Test Dummies, Backus mascot Traumaroo and the new Billy Backus remote ambulance, all of which were hits with the crowd.

Officials participating in the ceremonial groundbreaking at the construction site included, Todd Renz, President of O,R & L Construction; Backus Director of Pastoral Care Sister Rita Johnson; Backus Emegency Department Clinical Director Sandee Gelven; Backus Emergency Services Medical Director Dr. Robert Sidman; Plainfield Selectman GeorgeKrecidlo; Plainfield First Selectman Paul Sweet; Backus President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Whitehead; Backus Board member Anthony Joyce; O, R& L Project Manager Clifford Lennox. The $7 million ER is expected to be complete in about a year.
