Former Governor Rell to speak at Backus Cancer Survivors Event

NORWICH – Former Connecticut Governor and breast cancer survivor M. Jodi Rell will be the keynote speaker at The William W. Backus Hospital’s Cancer Survivors Day on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the hospital grounds.

Rell served as Connecticut’s Republican governor from 2004 to 2009.  Prior to 2004, she served as the state’s Lieutenant Governor and in the House of Representatives.

Rell joins Rose Gerber, a local breast cancer survivor who now serves as  director of patient advocacy for the Community Oncology Alliance Patient Advocacy Network in Washington, D.C., speaking at the event.

Expected to draw hundreds of local cancer survivors and their families, this free event will feature local resources for cancer survivors, including support groups, nutritional support, counseling and alternative therapies.
