Backus offers tips to avoid heat-related illness
NORWICH – Although other kinds of weather might get more attention, heat is actually the most dangerous event of all, said Dr. Steven Powell, a pulmonologist on The William W. Backus Hospital Medical Staff. In fact, the National Weather Service reports that heat kills more people per year – approximately 162 -- than floods, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes combined.

Event to benefit the Backus Stroke Program
Participants gathered Saturday, Feb. 13, in the spacious Italian kitchen and dining room of John and Mary-Lee Wilcox in Preston for a a fund-raising event to benefit the Backus Stroke Program. The event, which featured great foods, live music, a silent auction and a cooking demonstration by a White House chef, raised money and awareness for Backus Hospital's Primary Stroke Center.
