When a blood clot forms as part of the body's normal repair process, there is little cause for alarm. But when a clot forms when it is not needed, it can have potentially significant consequences.
With near record-breaking cold temperatures and higher than average snowfall in eastern Connecticut, the dangers of frostbite are real. According to the Backus Hospital Emergency Department, frostbite results when skin becomes exposed to extreme cold. Prolonged exposure leads to freezing the skin and tissue below.
PLAINFIELD – A new Enjoy LIFE (Lifelong Investment in Fitness & Exercise) Active Challenge program begins Thursday, Jan. 20, with an exercise variety show that includes a food demonstration by Backus Hospital dietitians, represtentatives from the Backus Weight Loss Center, Marie’s Fitness, Plainfield Curves and more.
Backus Hospital is a busy place during the holiday season, and this year was no exception. The Holiday Dinner put on by the Food and Nutrition Department is always a popular event. Children from the Mary Allen Ross Childcare Center at Backus sampled holiday treats and met Santa. And Dr. Thomas Lesnik led a band of musicians and carolers throughout the hospital spreading musical cheer to our patients and staff.
