SUSTAINABILITYChange is the only constant in health care.  From transformation at the national level, to funding challenges statewide, and shifting needs locally and regionally, it is difficult yet imperative to set and maintain course. At Backus, embracing the pace and reality of change has led us to seek new opportunity rather than careen from one crisis to another. In the midst of unprecedented change, we promised to maintain our mission and remain viable. Promise kept.

Our partnership with Hartford HealthCare resulted in the creation of the system’s first regional network, the East Region, including Backus and Windham hospitals. A Strategic Plan for health care delivery will serve as a roadmap for the healthcare delivery system of the future.

Community Outreach

The Backus Community Health Needs Assessment doesn’t just sit on a shelf – it is a guide to ensuring that our outreach is meaningful and on target. In 2013, more than 9,000 people were touched by some form of Backus community benefit.

From the Laura Beth Seder Memorial Golf Tournament to the Survivors in Fashion show and the annual appeal, philanthropy continues to allow Backus to invest in new people, programs and technology.
