PRESTON – A July 30 fundraiser to benefit The William W. Backus Hospital Stroke Center will include an auction for baseballs signed by New York Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes and shortstop Derek Jeter, who recently became a member of the 3,000-hit club.
The signed balls were donated by Dr. Anthony Alessi, who obtained the items when the major league baseball players were rehabbing at the Yankees’ minor league affiliate in Trenton, New Jersey.
The event, ‘80s Re-wined, is being held on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the Dalice Elizabeth Winery in Preston. The event has a 1980s theme with music, food and beverages and clothing celebrating the era. Attendees are encouraged to wear 1980s attire.
A free wine cooler (they were popular in the 1980s) and beer-tasting are included in the ticket price, which is appropriately $19.80. They can be purchased by calling 860-823-6331
As the event approaches, people are encouraged to comment on their memories of the 1980s or post photos on the Backus facebook page,www.facebook.com/backushospital
