Backus Arthritis Center joins national registry
July 19, 2012
NORWICH – The William W. Backus Hospital’s Arthritis Center has recently become a member of CORRONA (the Consortium of Rheumatology Researchers of North America, Inc.), an independent registry with the mission to advance rheumatology research and improve patient care.
“Access to the database is monumental for the arthritis center and our patients,” said Sandeep Varma, MD, Medical Director of the Arthritis Center. “Drawing on an infinite quantity of real-time data from across the nation, we can assess the effectiveness of medications for patients right here in eastern Connecticut.”
Physicians can enter data on rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and osteoporosis risk directly into the registry. In addition to collecting information on the effectiveness of treatments, the registry also tracks information on the safety of drugs to treat these diseases.
