August 6, 2014
NORWICH—Backus Hospital has opened the Backus Hospital Family Health Center in the Norwichtown Commons offering primary care services and soon-to-be-added seven-day-a-week urgent care services
On July 16, Kathleen Bonin, APRN, formerly with the practice of Liliana Galan, MD, who retired earlier this month, began seeing patients in the new facility. The 4,000-square-foot center (right near Stop and Shop and Dress Barn) has 10 exam rooms and houses two primary care providers and eventually urgent care services. The urgent care component is expected to begin in early September and will be open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., seven days a week. John Greeley, MD, recently hired to the Backus system from a practice in the Stamford area, is working with Bonin to see primary care patients until a new provider recruited for the position comes on board in early September.
The center in Norwichtown is the hospital’s third major primary care expansion in the community in recent years, building on successful models in Colchester and Montville, which offer primary care and urgent care services within the same location.
“These centers truly exemplify our commitment to providing additional access points and convenient care for patients right in the places where they live, work and even shop,” said Dave Whitehead, Hartford HealthCare East Region President which includes Backus hospital.
Medical records for patients from Doctor Galan’s practice were transferred to the Backus Center on July 1, 2014. To contact the center or to make an appointment, patients can call860.886.0567.
