Junior Volunteer Program

Picture-011Backus Hospital’s Junior Volunteer Program gives high school students the opportunity to explore careers firsthand, as well as provide service to the hospital and our patients.

Junior Volunteer Program / Summer 2016

Applications for Summer 2016 are no longer being accepted.

The program provides high school students the opportunity to learn new skills, develop new interests, and make new friends. If you enjoy the satisfaction that comes from helping others, you will enjoy being part of The William W. Backus Hospital Junior Volunteer Program.

Juniors begin their duties as soon as they complete their orientation in June, and can continue through the fall, winter and spring months, after school on weekdays, and school vacations.

Our Junior Volunteer program gives young people the opportunity to explore careers in healthcare, as well as provide service to our hospital and patients.

Backus Volunteer Bridge Program

The Backus Volunteer Bridge Program is a campaign to support and expand the Backus Volunteer Leadership Program.

At Backus, we create meaningful, professionally fulfilling volunteer experiences for all who give of their time.  This is especially crucial for our Junior Volunteers.  Each year, more than 150 young women and men from high schools throughout eastern Connecticut benefit from career exploration, job shadowing and gaining hands-on experience in a busy hospital setting.

The Bridge campaign assists in making that experience even better.  All funds raised through the campaign are used to build an endowment to develop and sustain an engaging summer program under the direction of the Junior Volunteer Coordinator, as well as valuable career exploration programs throughout the school year.

If you are interested in assisting with the campaign in any way, please contact Mary Brown, CAVS, Manager of Volunteer and Guest Services at 860.823.6320 or Gen Schies, Manager of Development at 860.823.6331.
