About Us

Hartford HealthCare’s of Continuing Medical Education (CME) Department is accredited by the Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS), responsible to the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), which allows us to provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ to physicians (non-physician learners are provided with educational contact hours.)  The HHC CME office is a resource to guide providers through the process of planning, implementing, and evaluating an accredited educational activity. Our staff are available to support you with each component of the application. We can help you develop and articulate your educational activity to meet your specific needs, while maintaining the proper ACCME and CSMS standards and requirements.

The HHC CME program creates educational activities based on an extensive suite of topics across multiple disciplines.  Our content areas draw from needs assessment data, current literature reviews, regulatory mandates, and practice audits and are focused primarily around our medical specialties and subspecialties across the system.  All of our educational activities are designed using our core competencies, which include: management skills, strategic planning, knowledge of healthcare, problem solving, emotional intelligence, and communication.  We also incorporate professional core competencies from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, American Board of Medical Specialties, the Institute of Medicine, and the Interprofessional Educational Collaborative.

Target Audience

The HHC CME program serves the multidisciplinary needs of our

  • medical staff
  • community physicians
  • advanced care providers
  • other healthcare professionals across HHC  

Our fully integrated health system includes a tertiary-care teaching hospital, an acute-care community teaching hospital, an acute-care hospital and trauma center, two community hospitals, the state’s most extensive behavioral health network, a large multispecialty physician group, a regional home care system, an array of senior care services, a large physical therapy and rehabilitation network, and an accountable care organization.  The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute also provides coordinated care across five cancer centers, and is the charter member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance.

The HHC CME Department offers a wide-range of interactive and innovative educational activities designed to meet the needs of each department, address specific practice gaps and improve quality metrics. We offer the following educational formats:

Expected Results

All of HHC’s CME activities are created with the intention to enhance our learners’ knowledge, skills, and behaviors.  It is our expectation that these educational activities will have a positive impact on our learners’ competence and performance in practice and will ultimately drive improvement in quality and patient care.  We employ both qualitative and quantitative measures to determine the effectiveness of programs.  Results are shared with our activity planners and leadership teams across the system in an effort to continuously improve our CME department and create more meaningful activities.
