Backus Hospital Commemorative Auxiliary Scholarship

The Backus Hospital Commemorative Auxiliary Scholarship was established as a one-time award to support the dependents of Backus Hospital colleagues, and past/present volunteers who are furthering or pursuing a career in healthcare related roles. 

Applications will be accepted from March 9, 2026, through March 29, 2026.

Late applications will not be accepted or reviewed.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a dependent of a Backus colleague/colleague who primarily works at a Backus facility, or a current or former Backus volunteer.

*Dependents are individuals claimed on your taxes, as defined by the IRS - child must live in the same home as you in the United States for more than half of the tax year. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/qualifying-child-rules

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Be a high school graduate, a high school graduate by June of the current academic year and/or enrolled in an accredited post-secondary school
  2. Be pursuing studies in a healthcare-related field
  3. Submit a completed application (see below)
  4. Provide a current transcript (or evidence of GPA)
  5. Provide an updated resume (optional)

Timeline

Applications will be accepted from March 9, 2026, through March 29, 2026. Early or late applications will not be accepted or reviewed. You will be notified of the committee’s decision by April 10, 2026.

Selection

The Backus Hospital Commemorative Auxiliary Scholarship Committee selects up to five scholarship recipients based on a variety of criteria including academic persistence, community involvement and services, career interest and financial need. The Committee reviews all applications in a blinded process.

Upon notification of the award, you will be asked to complete a W-9 form for your identified college/university. All paperwork must be submitted to Backus.Volunteers@hhchealth.org no later than April 30, 2026. Failure to comply with this timeline will result in the Committee redacting your application.

Disbursement

Scholarship checks ($2,000) will be made payable to the recipient’s account at their university/college Bursar’s office.
